...the on-sight first ascent of Sirplum used only two pegs for aid on the 2nd pitch 1st bulge, one being an in-situ rusty nail from someone’s previous attempt and one I placed above because the rock was horrific and coming off in handfuls. The other three were either for protection or to hang off whilst demolishing a five foot hanging flake which is now a pedestal. [1]

Jerry Moffatt was so incensed that Woodward had plucked the FA from under him (after his huge ground fall) the he never spoke to him again.

I've told this story here before, but I had the pleasure of taking Elie [Chevieux] out for his first day in the Peak. I was looking for someone to climb with and someone said there's some Swiss guy at Ben Pritchard's house looking for a partner. I picked him up in the morning but it was only when we were halfway to the crag that I realised who he was. I had a project on Long Wall, Cheedale, so we went there. Happily I did the project and it took him two repoint goes. It was fun day, he seemed to be a really nice, easy going person. [1]

It took Seb three years to climb the route and when he finally succeeded he said, “It’s got to be called K3, as it’s much harder to climb than K2”. Since Seb has never set foot in the Himalaya, this is quite an unusual statement.

During the time that elapsed from bolting the route to its final completion, approximately 90% of the sport climbing population of Sheffield belayed Seb at one time or another. [1]

The hardest first ascent by a woman in the UK for many years. Karin Magog then took the honour when she made the FA of Stolen in 2006.
