First ascent. With Elie Chevieux.

I've told this story here before, but I had the pleasure of taking Elie [Chevieux] out for his first day in the Peak. I was looking for someone to climb with and someone said there's some Swiss guy at Ben Pritchard's house looking for a partner. I picked him up in the morning but it was only when we were halfway to the crag that I realised who he was. I had a project on Long Wall, Cheedale, so we went there. Happily I did the project and it took him two repoint goes. It was fun day, he seemed to be a really nice, easy going person. [1]

First ascent.

After soloing it, Andy then climbed it hands free (on top rope)!

It's honestly not that bad. I was there with Johnny [Dawes] (no surprise). I'd just soloed it and he suggested trying hands free - I think he'd done it like that previously. I was dubious too but it went pretty easily (this is on toprope obvs). It's a very pure piece of padding. [2]

First ascent.

Written up as Idyll in Mountain magazine. May have been another claim which would explain the two names?

Monster Crack E4 (approx) Alternate Leads | onsight Jul 1989
First ascent. With Frank Ramsey. First free ascent.

Andy was soloing the route as part of a big day out so was carrying a rucksack at the time. He inadvertently committed to the E4 variation!
