Hayden Kennedy was an American climber and mountaineer. In 2017 he and his partner Inge Perkins were caught in an avalanche while skiing. Ivan Vostinar was a central figure in the New Zealand climbing scene during the 1990s and 2000s. Recognised as one of the earliest "Basiners," Vostinar became known as the "King of Castle Hill" for his extensive development and mastery of the area's limestone boulders. A powerful climber, he was an early adopter of dedicated training, operating under the personal ethos that "the body will adapt." Vostinar established numerous difficult sport routes in the Cave and across the South Island up to 8b+. Beyond his athletic achievements, he authored several definitive regional climbing guides, most notably Rock Deluxe with Kate Sinclair, a comprehensive work in which they climbed an estimated 93% of the 1719 routes and 1561 boulders. |
