Toni Egger 3

One of the leading climbers of his time [1]

Rolando Garibotti

Austrian guide, rock climber and Alpinist noted for his fast and lightly-protected ascents, sometimes solo, and his skill on both rock and ice.

He died, apparently from an ice avalanche, whilst on Cerro Torre. His partner Cesare Maestri claimed this was descending after a successful ascent. Building on work by Ken Wilson, Rolando Garibotti and Kelly Cordes have removed any lingering doubt that they did not summit.

Torre Egger is named after him on Maestri's suggestion after Egger's death.

Tony Stone 3
Toshimichi Kusano 3

The current style emerged during the global bouldering boom of the 1990s. In Japan, a turning point was Toshimichi Kusano’s 1995 article “Stone People” in 'Iwa to Yuki' (Rock and Snow) magazine issue #169. The problems introduced there were revolutionary in both style and grade, marking a new era in Japanese bouldering. Kusano also introduced the “dan” grading system that became the national standard.
