Herman Buhl was an Austrian mountaineer most famous for his solo first ascent of Nanga Parbat in 1953 and being a member of the first team to summit Broad Peak in 1957. He died shortly after climbing Broad Peak while attempting to climb the nearby Chogolisa when he walker over a cornice in a storm triggering an avalanche which killed him. |
