Scott was the first American climber to establish an 8b+ (or 14a) with his first ascent of Scarface at Smith Rock. His company, Franklin Climbing - later sold to Black Diamond, produced climbing wall holds, hangboards, bouldering mats and other training equipment in the 1990s.
