References

Jim Holloway is an American climber who played a vital role in the development of bouldering in the United States. Holloway pushed the cutting edge, establishing "Meathook" ~V11/8A and "Trice" V12/8A+ in 1975 (notably before the first established V10/7C+: John Gill's "the Groove" in 1978). In 1977, Holloway made the first ascent of his hardest boulder, "Slapshot" which has yet to have seen a second ascent nearly 50 years later and was potentially in the V13/8B range prior to a hold break.

[1] Interview with Climbing.com, July 2007 https://www.climbing.com/news/the-complete-jim-holloway-interview/

[2] https://archive.org/details/jim_holloway-2-21-2006

Established by John Gill as potentially the first ascent of a problem graded V10/7C+. Discussing the development of bouldering, Gill states "On boulders, delicate, tiny-holds work I referred to as “micro-climbing”, rather than bouldering. But, don’t assume that strong-arm routes are not technical. On the Groove, near Pueblo, I had to learn one of the most technical moves I’ve ever done, and it involved great strength and momentum"

References

[1] https://threerockbooks.com/interview-with-john-gill/
