Extremely strong and talented Yorkshireman who was bouldering at the technical cutting edge in the early 1980s.

Rob is an awesome climber, and one of the most twisted routesetters I have ever come across (there was always a Gawthorpe nasty in the old Edge comps). His ability on the rock, and his penchant for both the minging crimp and the horrific rock-over are still legendary.

Remember one of his stories about soloing on slate. He used to solo listening to music on a Walkman. Can’t remember which one but he was soloing an E5 and then disaster struck - the tape ran out!. He said turning the tape over was the crux. [1]
