<p>Donald Bennet was an engineer who became Reader in Applied Thermodynamics and Nuclear Engineering at the University of Strathclyde; he climbed widely abroad, with first ascents in the Himalaya and Peru, and was a prime mover in founding the Mountaineering Council of Scotland. He joined the SMC in 1955, was Hon.
