My view is that it's a DNF with note to say it's actually Did Not Start and good effort for going ground-up

Yeah that seems fair to me. I think doing the top ground up is pretty cool so kind of a shame to have to give it the dnf, but it doesn't seem worth adding another climb as a variation to record it.
