In 1980 a large flake on the route 'fell off':

Interestingly, the remains of the flake lay below the route for some time and underneath it happened to be a large iron bar, the sort of bar used to lever flakes off. It was rumoured that the flake was levered off to give Cabbage Crack an independent finish! [1]

Originally proposed at 8B+, the second and third ascentionists used new beta and suggested 8A+.

Originally a project tried by Josh Hummel-Newell who did all the moves but ultimately was unable to finish it.

According to legend, I took a 200 foot fall on pitch 6. The legend is true. Let's just say that Steve Grossman is and always has been a better face climber than me when far above his last piece! [1]

Sometime after Ignacio Sánchez González made the second ascent a hold broke, making the problem significantly harder. It wasn't clear that it was still possible until Alberto Rocasolano Jaudenes re-opened the line over 10 years later. [1]
