Of all the great alpine climbers of that exciting decade prior to the Second World War, Riccardo Cassin stands out as the most distinguished. His three outstanding North Face climbs on the Grandes Jorasses, the Cima Ovest and the Piz Badile marked him out as an alpinist of the highest calibre.
