<p>Known as Des Rubens. A teacher of outdoor activities at Craigroyston Community High School in Edinburgh for over 30 years, he climbed on expeditions to Afghanistan, Pakistan (including Drifika in 1980 and an attempt on Gasherbrum III in 1985) and Zanskar.
