While prussiking a fixed line Jim suffered a serious accident when his prussiks slipped. He managed to stop his fall after 100 feet by grabbing the rope but seriously burnt his hands in the process, requiring a month off climbing to recover.

During an attempt at making the first ascent [Dave Bircheff](/climber/3845/dave-bircheff), [Phil Bircheff](/climber/3846/phil-bircheff) and [Jim Pettigrew](/climber/3847/jim-pettigrew) were forced down due to a lack of appropriately sized hexes to protect some of the pitches.
To save the hassle of retreating with a haul bag they decided to ditch the bag with a make-shift parachute attached. Unfrotunately the parachute was entirely ineffective and the haulbag exploed on impact.
