I hadn't realised Menlove had climbed this @duncancritchley, don't suppose you know a date so we could add the ascent in properly?

I'm pretty certain Edwards didn't climb it. I don't know if he attempted it before Brown made the first ascent. Edwards climbed a number of other routes on the Cromlech in the 1940s and suggested a name for its most prominent feature before it was climbed - a bit like Master's Edge! It seems Brown was happy to adopt this suggestion. Joe Brown mentions in The Hard Years that a number of people had tried it before his first attempt in 1948 but none getting further than the first tricky move at 20'. These might have included Peter Harding but I don't have my copy of his book to hand.

Doh, misread your notes on Joe's ascent and thought it said 'climbed' rather than 'named' 🤦
