Climbers

James Morris was a central figure in the Basin climbing scene between 2006 and 2013. Frequently climbing alongside Zac Orme and Derek Thatcher, the trio collaborated to establish numerous hard lines throughout the area.

In addition to their completed first ascents, Morris and his partners heavily influenced the development of the Basin, discovering, cleaning, and preparing many future projects that would shape the area's progression.

Morris gained the first ascent of on of Flock Hills Finest lines Moby Dick V12.

Roth grew up climbing in Salt Lake City, UT, and was a fixture in the competitive climbing scene during the late 90s and early 2000s. He appeared in influential climbing films like Bring the Ruckus alongside legends like Chris Sharma. Roth is known for the first ascent of Rastaman Vibrations (8A+) and The Butterfinger (8A+) in Bishop as well as many Joes Valley classics including Trent's Mom (7C+) and Jitterbug Perfume (7C+). Roth also has multiple repeats of classics including the second ascent of [ I Scream (8c+) in American Fork Canyon and the 3rd ascent of The Mandala (8A+). Roth eventually stepped away from professional climbing to later purchase and bring back the iconic climbing hold company Pusher, where he currently shapes and designs holds.

French climber, mountaineer, ENSA mountain guide, author and film-maker. 1980s Verdon and Ecrins developer and organiser of some of the first climbing competitions in France.

British Columbia based rock climber notable for first ascents of the Grand Wall, the first major route on Stawamus Chief, and El Capitan's Dihedral Wall. Died in an abseiling accident on Washington Column's East Face.

John Palmer is a prominent New Zealand rock climber, developer, and access advocate. A prolific first-ascensionist known for his technical slab-climbing mastery, he has served as president of the New Zealand Alpine Club (NZAC) and is the founder and former chairman of the Aotearoa Climbing Access Trust (ACAT).

As a prominent documentarian of the domestic scene, Palmer has contributed widely as a climbing writer and photographer. He is the creator of the climbing news platform powerband.org.nz across its various iterations, as well as the Powerband Podcast, an audio project archiving the history and personalities of New Zealand climbing.
