Glasgow surgeon (FRCS) at the Western Infirmary who joined the Scottish Mountaineering Club in 1945. In 1946 he was appointed convener of a new First Aid Committee and, helped most of all by Donald Duff and Ben Humble, set up the post-war Scottish mountain rescue service.
