Lionel Hinxman was a geologist with HM Geological Survey in Scotland and an original member of the Scottish Mountaineering Club, serving on its Committee and as Vice-President (1900-1902). He wrote widely for the early Journal, including a 'Climbers' Guide to the Pronunciation of the Gaelic Tongue' and an article on the geology of the Scottish mountains, and contributed to the Guide Books on the Northern Grampians.
