Donald Bennet was an engineer who became Reader in Applied Thermodynamics and Nuclear Engineering at the University of Strathclyde; he climbed widely abroad, with first ascents in the Himalaya and Peru, and was a prime mover in founding the Mountaineering Council of Scotland. He joined the SMC in 1955, was Hon. Secretary from 1967 to 1979 and President from 1986 to 1988, edited the SMC guides to the Munros and Corbetts, and was made OBE in 2001. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
