Bill Brooker was a leading figure in the post-war revival of Scottish mountaineering, making first winter ascents in the Cairngorms such as Eagle Ridge on Lochnagar and Mitre Ridge on Beinn a' Bhuird; he worked as a geography teacher and later in extra-mural studies at Aberdeen University. He was SMC President from 1972 to 1974, Editor of the Journal from 1975, and Honorary President from 1996 to 2011. [1]
