Archie Hendry took an M.A. in French and German at Edinburgh University and taught at George Watson's School in Edinburgh, where he encouraged the young Robin Smith; he climbed in Scotland and the Alps throughout his life, often with George Peat. He joined the SMC in 1944, was Custodian of the Charles Inglis Clark Hut, President in 1968, and later General Editor of the Climbing Guidebooks. [1]
