Charles Ashley was one of the group who met in October 1902 to form the Rucksack Club, and he served on its committee. He explored little-known mountain areas of Ireland and wrote about them in the early journals. After moving to London in about 1920 he started the club's annual London dinners with Bennison in 1922, from which the London Section grew. He was made a vice-president in the club's Jubilee year and died on 23 August 1960. [1]
