Frank Solari was a physics graduate of Birmingham University and a founder member of its mountaineering club, who joined the Rucksack Club in 1936 and worked in the civil service on aeronautical inspection. He developed testing methods and standards for climbing ropes and karabiners for the British Mountaineering Council, and was a vice-president of the BMC and of the Alpine Club. In 1955 he made the first ascent of South Kunzan peak in Lahoul. [1]
