Basil Goodfellow was an engineer with ICI who climbed widely in the Alps, Norway, the Lofoten and the Dauphiné, and was a noted mountain photographer. He was president of the Rucksack Club from 1950, honorary secretary of the Alpine Club, joint honorary secretary of the Himalayan Committee that planned the 1953 Everest expedition, and president of the British Mountaineering Council; his work earned him an OBE. He died suddenly in September 1972, on his way to an evening meeting of the Alpine Club. [1] [2]
