Eustace Thomas was an electrical engineer, a partner in Bertram Thomas (Engineers) Ltd of Manchester, who joined the Rucksack Club in 1909 and was its president from 1924. He extended the Lake District fell record in the early 1920s and in 1928 became the first Englishman to complete the list of Alpine 4000-metre peaks, climbing with Joseph Knubel. He was also involved in the 1930s in developing mountain rescue equipment. [1] [2]
