Philip Minor was a Manchester lawyer and a founder member of the Rucksack Club, its treasurer from its start until his death and its president in 1917-19, when he was also President of the Fell and Rock Climbing Club. He began rock climbing after he was forty, climbed the Matterhorn, Dent Blanche and other peaks in 1911, was elected to the Alpine Club that year, and was the first to climb all the English and Welsh hills over 2,500 feet.
