Charles Pilkington was a colliery director and a pioneer of guideless climbing in the Alps, including guideless ascents of the Barre des Ecrins and La Meije. He was among the first to explore the Cuillin of Skye and climbed the Inaccessible Pinnacle in 1880, and was President of the Alpine Club. He was also a president of the Rucksack Club. [1] [2]
