Harold Baily Dixon was Professor of Chemistry at Owens College, Manchester, from 1886 to 1922, known for his research on gas explosions, and a Fellow of the Royal Society. He climbed in Switzerland and made exploratory climbs in the Canadian Rockies, joined the Alpine Club in 1894, and was the first president of the Rucksack Club. [1] [2]
