Rakhiot Flank - Nanga Parbat | Mountaineering | expedition | 3rd Jul 1953 | ||
First ascent. Without supplementary oxygen.
Buhl summited the peak alone after other members of the expedition turned back. Buhl arrived dangerously late at around 19:00 due to unexpected difficulties on the ridge and was forced to take a standing bivi on a small ledge, where he dozed occasionally but managed to avoid toppling off. He finally arrived back at the last camp 40hours after setting off. |
