Named after or in honour of Ian's grandfather who was a ‘ropeman’ or Y Rhaffwr in the quarries. One of the more dangerous jobs requiring men to descend rope via classic abseiling method (i.e. no harnesses) with massive pry-bars to lever slate of ledges. [1]
